A Guide to Assigning Accountability

Simplicity – Each system process should be created for a unique operation in your business. Do not create complex systems that are meant to be handled from one position to the next. Always strive to create simple systems that one person can operate from start to finish. Related systems can always be referred to within Considerations/Guidelines. 

Clarity – Strive to create systems where the accountability is clear. A system should only be assigned to the accountable position or group. Eliminating any misunderstandings about who is responsible for operating a specific system brings clarity to your team. 

Uniformity – There are some systems that will be shared by more than one position. Systems like how to enter/exit the building or how to answer the phone may be ones that multiple positions are expected to operate. That is why “Groups” exist—the ability to assign one system to multiple positions regardless of department or location.

Protection – What do you do when a critical employee takes vacation or is sick for an extended period of time? That is why cross-training exists. Cross-trained systems in MyEKC allows you to train a selected individual, regardless of position, for the purpose of backing up a critical function. While all other systems are assigned to a position or group of positions, cross-training allows a system to be assigned to an individual OR position for this very purpose.
